A&L Paint, which sells coatings, exterior and interior paint to the shed industry, has joined the fight against COVID-19. In March, it began manufacturing hand sanitizer instead of the usual products it creates and sells.

According to Jonathan Zook, general manager of the Pennsylvania-based company, “We started making hand sanitizer for the local area, which made us essential.”

Manufacturing the hand sanitizer, which is sold in bottles ranging from 2 to 16 ounces, has kept the small entity’s staff busy.

One employee was laid off at the beginning of the pandemic, since the company wasn’t sure how it would fare, but they were recalled once A&L began churning out the new product.

The company had to invest in a shaft and mixer blade to create the sanitizer, says Zook, noting he’s certain the new accessories will find some use once the pandemic has passed.

In order to maintain proper social distancing, the company’s retail shop is closed to the public.

“We leave orders on our front porch or deliver in the area,” shares Zook. The company also ships nationally, although the hand sanitizer is aimed at the local market.
