Shed Haulers Brotherhood Pausing

The Shed Haulers Brotherhood (SHB), an organization started to help shed haulers, is “closing down” and “remodeling” through the rest of the year, according to founder and CEO Sam Byler.

“I’m not really sure where to start or where to stop, but the nonprofit status is going away,” he shares. “After three tries for federal status, it’s not going to work. So, the state side needs to be shut down. That means no donations for six months.”

Byler adds that SHB’s monthly costs far exceed its monthly income.

“We started this to help haulers, and while we have done a ton of that, the part that was needed for this rapidly fell off,” he shares. “The sharing (helping haulers) plan side did a little over $200,000 in the first two years and less than $30,000 in the last four. The loan side has thrived (over $ 2.3 million) but is also why we can’t get federal status.

“The help the industry has done outside of itself is phenomenal, but we don’t need an org to do that. While we had over $6.5 million donated in sheds, clean up, and funding, none was donated to SHB itself. It’s impossible to run an organization that way.”
Byler states he’s not sure what is going to happen. It will depend on the interest of shed haulers.

“This was (the haulers) from day one,” he says. “I’m just blessed to be involved.”

Events like the Shed Haulers Bash and regional barbecues will continue no matter what happens with SHB.
