Reaching 40 years in business is no small feat. To stand strong for four decades is a blessing worth celebrating. And what better way to celebrate than with a good old-fashioned fish fry?
That’s what Union Grove Lumber did in Harmony, North Carolina, to celebrate.
The anniversary event, sponsored by MiraTEC, brought together employees, family members, friends, customers, and partners who have all played a part in the journey.
When Mo Lunsford began the business in 1986, there were long hours, tight margins, and plenty of risk. The lumber business is not for the faint of heart. Prices rise and fall. Weather can slow production. Markets shift. But through it all, Mo’s leadership stayed steady. Decisions were made carefully. Relationships were built slowly and on purpose.
From the start, Lunsford ensured that Union Grove Lumber focused on quality and trust—two qualities the shed industry demands. Customers knew they were getting straight answers and solid products. Mills and suppliers knew their word would be honored. In an industry that depends on reliability, that reputation became Union Grove Lumber’s strongest asset.
Over the years, the company continued to grow. Leadership passed to the second generation—Mo’s daughter, Erica, and her husband, Josh. With new leadership came updated technology and expanded markets overseas. Yet even as shipments began reaching across borders, the company stayed grounded in its roots and dedicated to serving the shed industry. The same values that shaped the early days—faith, family, responsibility, and service—still guide the business today.
Union Grove Lumber is more than a company. It is a family effort. It is parents teaching children the value of honest work. It is employees who have stayed for decades because they feel like they belong. It is customers who have done business together for years because trust was earned, not demanded.
After 40 years, one thing is clear: when a business is rooted in strong values and guided by steady hands, it can stand tall through any season—and Union Grove Lumber is still standing strong.
