Builder Makes It ‘Big’ at the Fair

The Big E is a big fair in West Springfield, Massachusetts, featuring entertainment, agriculture and food at Eastern States Exposition.

Anyone who attended the fair September 14-30 this year knows it was really big, breaking an all-time attendance record with 1,543,470 people visiting the fairgrounds.

The Big E was also big for Connecticut-based builder The Barn Yard. For the 2018 edition of the fair, The Barn Yard built a new Farmers Market Barn and new ticket booths.

The Barn Yard built the new Eastern States Farmers Market Barn adjacent to the popular Wine Barn, which the builder also constructed back in 2013. It also built a Curved Roof Timber Frame Pavilion between the buildings to house the new Wine Café.

The new Farmers Market Barn housed the Fiber Nook, which included products made from sheep’s wool and alpaca fiber, and a variety of agricultural demonstrations, such as spinning and weaving.

Also in the Farmers Market Barn was a new Cheese Cave where fairgoers could sample and purchase award-winning cheeses from The Big E Gold Medal Cheese Competition. Many more farm-to-table products were available for purchase. In the center of the building, the barn has a Farmers Market Demo Kitchen, for ongoing cooking demonstrations.

The Barn Yard also built new ticket booths at the Gate 9 entrance of The Big E.

The new ticket booths were in action at Gate 9 as visitors entered The Big E. The Barn Yard designed and built the custom 8 by 10 booths based on its Grand Victorian model.

Each booth featured decorative siding, rafter tails, and gutters, along with sliding ticket windows and granite counters.
